Whether you do not have easy garage access, you’re going out of town for a long period of time, or just simply don’t have enough room at your residence, storing your vehicles at a self storage facility can be a large benefit when they are not in use. The need for vehicle storage is very common. However, it’s not just for recreational vehicles, pickup trucks or compact vehicles. Motorcycles, boats, and ATVs can all benefit from being kept in a storage unit when not in use.
The storage unit size and necessary features will vary depending on what kind of vehicle you are storing and for how long.
There are usually three types of vehicle storage across our facilities.
Outdoor Vehicle Storage: Outdoor vehicle parking is located on a storage facility’s property, usually behind a secure fence. This is convenient if you need cheap or temporary storage and is typically the cheapest option when it comes to vehicle storage. The downside? Your vehicle will be exposed to the elements 24/7.
Covered/Canopy Storage: For larger vehicles like boats and RVs, some facilities offer covered parking spots. These provide more protection from the elements than a simple outdoor parking spot, but aren’t as costly as larger storage units
Indoor Vehicle Storage: Indoor vehicle storage is a more expensive option, but it offers the most conveniences. Your enclosed storage unit basically functions as a personal garage. You park your vehicle inside your storage unit, where it will remain completely sheltered from the elements and safe from potential theft and vandalism. Some of our units across the US even have drive through options for ease of access to your vehicle. Indoor storage is highly recommended for classic vehicles or any vehicle of higher value.
Top features to look out for when your choosing a vehicle storage location are:
- Drive-Up Access
- 24/7 Access
- Close Location
- Video Surveillance
- Electronic Gate Access
As each facility and geographic locations vary so please make sure to consult with your self storage facilities on-site manager to figure out the best option to store your vehicle pertaining to your needs.
*Vehicle Storing Tip: If your vehicle is able to be covered, please do it as well! It is such a simple extra security measure to ensure the best condition of your stored vehicle.
